Spring 2009 at Mont Alto
It was strangely gratifying to see familiar faces in most of my classes. In fact, the only class where I dont know anyone is my Art class, but I can deal with that. And Im with the Mont Alto Gaming Club again this semester with another round of Assassins...which I dont know if Ill actually play this time since I really dont have the time or the money (admission for the game is $5, the weapon of choice is nerf guns.) I may, but...eh. Im holding out for the close-quarter combat inthe spring with swords. *wicked grin* Im hoping for arena sudden death matches like Roman gladitors. Ok, here are my classes:
Writing for Humanities:
Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 12:00pm-12:50pm with Dr. Russo.
I added this class at the last minute because its one that Im missing but is required, according to my audit. We have three options for the English 202 class, and Humanities was the only one that would really apply to my area. So Im going to read a lot of books that I dont care too much about, even if I dont hate them, and find someway to BS my papers again. Unfortunately, I have A LOT of papers to write, one right after the other, so I cant slack off at all. At least I know Russo is a good teacher, so I can practice my formal writing and editing some more.
Russian Folklore:
Tuesday/Thursday from 9:30am-10:45am with Professor Mueller.
This is a new class for Mont Alto, so no one knew anything about it. I was hoping this would be an interesting class, but Im not too sure now. Professor Mueller is a nice lady who was born and raised in the Soviet Union, so shes got the historical background, but her accent is heavy and she strikes me as a new teacher because of the uncertainty of her presentations. Still, we get to read Russian fairytales, so that will be fun, even if the overall class gets a general "eh" feeling from me.
Intro to Drawing:
Tuesday/Thursday from 11:00am-1:50pm with Professor Qually, or "Ms. Q."
This class looks like a lot of fun! Ms. Q is very energetic and funny, and best of all, she believes in teaching technique! Even though she wants s to explore and use our own creativity, she knows that we cant properly express ourselves without knowing the proper tools. I am sooooo grateful for that! Finally, and art teacher who isnt a total ditz! Ive just gotta make sure that I keep up with my assignments, since this class will have the most time-consuming homework. I dont know if I like drawing in class yet though. I tend to draw for about 30 minutes before I need to take a break, otherwise I get burnt out on the piece and start cutting corners. Drawing at home works better for me, but still, at school, its a nice way to relax a bit.
Critical Reading:
Wednesday from 3:45pm-6:15pm with Dr. Boon.
Ive had Boon before, so I know hes a good teacher, but I am VERY skeptical about the class. Its literary analysis, which I hate, all with books that Ive read before and LOATHED like The Great Gatsby, The Metamorphosis, T.S. Elliot, Brokeback Mountain, etc. Its probably going to be a pain, but maybe Ill learn something unrelated from Boon. I can only hope...otherwise my sarcasm is going to get a workout...and Ill need bandages for my mouth from biting my lip so Idont blurt out something embarassing.
German 1:
Online via ANGEL with Professor VanderKolk.
This is my online course, but theres a lot of work thats going to go into it. This first week wasnt too bad since I remember a lot of the intro stuff from my two years of German in high school, but now its going to get harder and be really involved with a lot of computer stuff. *sigh* Ah well. The activities on the CD are amusing.
So, in short, I have a lot of reading and writing intensive classes, plus a lot of drawing. The only class I really like and look forward to is Art; the rest range from so-so to annoyance, but Ill deal. Outlook isnt too good though, felt like Id been hit over the head with a brick by the end of the first week, my brain was working so hard. Free time is pretty much shot, although I still managed to not do any homework this weekend. ^_^;;
I wish everyone luck in their own classes this semester!

Ohh no, not Gatsby... *facedesk* Y'know, there's a good story in there somewhere, I'm sure of it, but I sure as hell can't find it. *shakes head* I'm sorry, dear. Why can't every class read Pride & Prejudice?
Ooh, German!

I agree with you on Gatsby. I can't see anything good about that story. We did get to read P&
At least I'll get to use my German music for my classes! We have to listen to a song each week and report on it, and I'm like, "heh, I've got 4 CDs worth of German music! I'm set!" And yes, name irony much. It's funny because Herr Vanderboegh told me that his name is actually Dutch. I wonder if having "Vander" in your name is a prerequisite for being a German teacher? *grin*
